Three tight ends visited Foxborough to end the first week of September.
The New England Patriots worked out free agents Zach Davidson, Marshall Lang and Cole Turner on Friday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Davidson, 27, entered the league with the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2021 draft at No. 168 overall. The former Division II All-American out of Central Missouri spent the past three years with the Buffalo Bills and was released at the 53-man roster deadline. Last campaign,
Davidson appeared in two games as a standard elevation from the practice squad for the AFC East champions. The 6-foot-7, 251-pound tight end caught his first career pass while seeing 42 snaps on offense and 26 snaps on special teams.
Lang, 23, signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie free agent following the 2025 NFL draft. He was waived at the league’s cutdown deadline in August. A 6-foot-4, 246-pound Northwestern product, Lang appeared in 52 games, including 21 starts, dating back to 2020. His Wildcats career brought 48 receptions for 491 yards and four touchdowns.
Turner, 25, was taken by the Washington Commanders in the fifth round of the 2022 class at No. 149 overall. He was waived by the club last week after spending the 2024 campaign on the practice squad and reaching a futures contract in January. A past first-team All-Mountain West selection, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Turner has checked into 22 NFL games. Starting three, he stands with 13 catches for 143 yards in his career.
Entering the opener at Gillette Stadium, the active roster sits at 53 while the practice squad sits at 17. Between them, the depth chart at tight end includes veterans Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, fullback Jack Westover as well as undrafted rookie C.J. Dippre.
The Las Vegas Raiders visit on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
