When Floyd Mayweather boxed Manny Pacquiao in what promoters dubbed “The Fight of the Century,” jaded boxing fans were already complaining the welterweight (cough) “super fight” was five years too late.
That was over a decade ago.
Netflix is now “exploring” a potential rematch in 2026, according to boxing insider Mike Coppinger, when Mayweather will be 49. That will put “Money” two years older than Pacquiao, who celebrates his 47th birthday at the end of the year.
Whether or not these talks cancel out the previously-planned Mayweather vs. Tyson fight is unknown and Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 could simply be just another Netflix cash grab. That said, it’s hard to imagine either fighter needing the money after so many million-dollar payouts.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) was last seen sleepwalking his way through back-to-back fights against John Gotti III, part of his exhibition retirement tour that keep him out of trouble, I guess. As for Pacquiao (62-8-3), he recently ended his retirement to draw Mario Barrios last July in Las Vegas.
In other boxing news, Jake Paul is fighting Gervonta Davis and UFC boss Dana White is promoting the “sweet science.”
End of days!
