Lennart Karl’s training injury for Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago came at a very bad time for both the club and the player. The 18-year-old missed crucial knockout matches, such as last week’s 5-4 loss to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League and Bundesliga games in which he could have further advocated for a place on the plane to the 2026 World Cup. Though the former Eintracht Frankfurt youth player is now fit enough to participate in parts of team training, head coach Vincent Kompany
raised doubts as to his potential availability for the second leg of the PSG tie:
“Most of the time, when you first get injured, you don’t even know exactly what it is. Lennart has never been injured before,” Kompany explained in the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against FC Heidenheim, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Usually that means he’ll make a quick and full recovery. An experienced player knows his limits. Lennart will do everything he can to be ready for the match against PSG, but we have to respect how the body works.”
One cannot rush a player back from a muscle injury or the consequences could be catastrophic. Bayern and Karl will both try so very hard to get the Bavarians’ #42 available for the second leg against PSG, but Karl’s health rughtly remains the top priority.
