Dynamite airs tonight (Sept. 24) with a live show from Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is the first episode of Dynamite during the four week build to WrestleDream, which takes
place on October 18.
It’s now or never for Britt Baker’s return to AEW
AEW Dynamite returns to Pittsburgh tonight, and that’s the hometown of Dr. Britt Baker, DMD. Baker was the biggest star in the women’s division during AEW’s first few years, but she’s been mostly absent and a non-factor over the last two years. She hasn’t wrestled since November 2024, and a report from the beginning of 2025 indicated that she’s wildly unpopular backstage and might never return to AEW.
Back in July, AEW President Tony Khan denied knowing anything about another rumor that Baker was trying to get out of her AEW contract. Khan said she is “very talented and we could utilize in AEW with the right situation and at the right time.” I’d say there’s no better time for Britt to return than when AEW is in her hometown tonight. DDP says Baker is healthy and ready to return, so if she doesn’t show up tonight, that doesn’t bode well at all for her AEW return ever happening. I think it’s now or never.
Khan happens to have an “important announcement” to make tonight, and a lot of folks are speculating it will be about the long-awaited debut of AEW women’s world tag team championship. Tony said one reason for the delay with these belts is that he’s been waiting for the women’s division to get closer to full strength after dealing with several injuries and absences. If Baker happens to be back in the fold, that could be one way to bolster the division with a big star ahead of the launch of these belts.
What exactly is Tony Khan’s “important announcement” all about, and could it be related to the potential AEW return of Britt Baker? Tune into Dynamite to find out.
The rest of the card
Kris Statlander is the new AEW women’s world champion, and she wants to be a fighting champ. Her first title defense is tonight against Mina Shirakawa. Will TBS Champion Mercedes Mone come out to confront the winner afterwards with her eyes set on adding a 10th championship belt to her collection?
Mark Briscoe and Hologram are teaming up with a mystery man tonight in a trios match against AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, and Hechicero of the Don Callis Family. A backstage bit with the Conglomeration at All Out heavily teased that Orange Cassidy is the mystery man. What kind of pop will OC receive for his return, and is there anything new about his gimmick or moveset?
