Chief are drafting Spencer Fano at #9 and it’s not the wrong call
I couldn’t disagree more.
This has nothing to do with the player Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano is; he has a chance to be a right tackle in this league for a very long time.
Having said that, the Chiefs have more pressing needs. Edge rusher, wide receiver, defensive back,
linebacker, and even running back are arguably bigger needs than right tackle.
Yes, even Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is a stronger option than Fano at ninth overall.
Ideally, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach selects an edge rusher or a receiver.
When it comes to the offensive line, Kansas City is good to great at four of the five spots, with left tackle Josh Simmons, left guard Kingsley Suamataia, center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith. Projected to start at right tackle, Jaylon Moore is average at best with the potential to be good.
If Moore doesn’t work out, I wouldn’t mind giving Esa Pole, an undrafted free agent last year, a real shot at competing to play right tackle.
The Chiefs should take two receivers in their first 40 picks
I agree with half of this.
With tight end Travis Kelce no longer in his prime and uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice’s long-term outlook, it feels imperative to find quarterback Patrick Mahomes a new blue-chip pass catcher.
If Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate is available at pick nine, I would strongly consider taking the draft’s top wideout. Just based on recent history, it’s hard to ignore the talent the Buckeyes have produced at the position, from Garrett Wilson to Chris Olave to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and so on.
However, considering the other holes on the roster, it’s hard to justify taking two receivers in the top 40.
Chiefs need to take two wide receivers in the draft. One early on and one later.
Now, we’re talking.
I think Kansas City should draft a receiver every year during the Mahomes era. As Mahomes ages, it’s important to ensure he always has weapons.
Whether the organization hits the target is one thing, but you have to keep throwing darts at the board. We don’t want an Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers situation here.
Patrick Mahomes will only make one more Super Bowl for the rest of his career
