Fresh off a 91-88 win over the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines, the Wisconsin Badgers are hitting the road to face the Minnesota Gophers in a rivalry game on Tuesday.
The Badgers finally got the marquee win they’d
been searching for with their upset of the Wolverines, which is the biggest upset of the college basketball season so far, as their offense went scorched earth in the second half to win.
Now, coming off wins over Michigan and the UCLA Bruins, the Badgers, sitting at 11-5, are riding some momentum heading into Minnesota, which has been a sneaky good team this year.
After firing head coach Ben Johnson and hiring Colorado State’s Niko Medved, has started the year 10-6 and 3-2 in the Big Ten with wins over No. 22 Indiana, Northwestern, and No. 19 Iowa. They do have some tough losses, going 2-4 in Quad 2 games and 0-1 in Quad 3 games, but they’ve been a fun team so far this year.
Medved has seen a breakout year from UNC transfer forward Cade Tyson, who is amongst the top scorers in the Big Ten, averaging 21.9 points a game, while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three. He’s been the catalyst of the offense.
They also have four other double-digit scorers, but play at one of the slowest paces in the country and are built more so on their defense, which ranks No. 58 in KenPom’s defensive efficiency.
