Award season kicked off in full tonight with the announcement of the Gold Glove winners. The finalists were announced on October 15th, with Brice Turang and Sal Frelick named at second base and right field,
respectively. Both are the reigning winners at their positions, each taking home a Gold Glove last season. Turang also took home the Platinum Glove award last season (which is decided by a fan vote). Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be a repeat year for them as neither took the award this season.
Nico Hoerner of the Cubs took back the Gold Glove at second base after Turang took it last season. Hoerner won a Gold Glove in 2023, and he had an incredible season defensively at second base. He had 17 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and +14 Outs Above Average (OAA), as well as +12 Fielding Run Value (FRV). Meanwhile, even though Turang had an overall better season than in 2024, his defensive stats took a noticeable hit in 2025. He had only 7 DRS and -2 OAA.
Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres took the award in right field, winning his second Gold Glove. He was the clear favorite in right field with 15 DRS, +8 OAA, and +9 FRV. Frelick had another good season in right field, but his numbers (9 DRS, +6 OAA, +7 FRV) just couldn’t match up to Tatis Jr, who outperformed him both on offense and defense.
The Brewers did announce one Gold Glove winner in the minor leagues. Luis Lara earned a Minor League Gold Glove award for his performance in center field this season. Lara spent the 2025 season with the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, playing 126 games in center field. He committed just two errors all season and had a .994 fielding percentage with 10 outfield assists.
Next up for award season is the Silver Slugger awards on November 6th. Turang will have another chance to pick up an award at second base. William Contreras and Christian Yelich are also finalists, named at catcher and designated hitter, respectively.
