Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano took to the podium today to answer questions about what we saw last game and to preview the Scarlet Knights’ matchup against Norfolk State.
One of the more important things Schiano discussed in this press conference was the situation surrounding the injury to left tackle Dantae Chin. Chin left last week’s game with an injury and did not return to the field during the game. According to Schiano, they are still awaiting tests to know the full scope of Chin’s injury, and that
we should know more on Saturday when the injury report comes out. Tyler Needham filled in most of the playing time during Chin’s absence last game. If Chin is unavailable going forward, Schiano said that it will likely be a three-man rotation going forward with Tyler Needham at the helm. The other two in this rotation would include Moshood Giwa, who transferred to Rutgers this season from LIU, and Justin Cesaire, who transferred to Rutgers this season from New Haven. He also said some of the freshmen might find themselves mixed in as well if Chin can’t go.
When it comes to previewing Norfolk State, Schiano spoke on how different their offense can be depending on who is under center. No.4 Otto Kuhns, who was the Spartans’ starting quarterback last week, is more of a pure passer who has 392 passing yards and two passing touchdowns on the year. No.7 Israel Carter, who saw a few snaps in both of the Spartans’ games, has a decent arm but has a running element to his game as well. He carried the ball 10 times in the Spartans’ overtime victory against Virginia State. Mobile quarterbacks have given Rutgers fits in their last two games, making it hard to predict which of these guys the Knights will be facing on Saturday.
