AUSTIN, Texas — After a sloppy 38-7 win over the San Jose State Spartans last week, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns are back at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against the UTEP Miners. Kick is at 3:15 p.m. Central on SEC Network.
Goals for Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian include playing cleaner football, from fewer penalties to better execution from his offensive line and perimeter blockers. Getting sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo and sophomore edge Colin
Simmons to stop pressing and play more freely is another goal for Sarkisian.
The Longhorns will have to beat the Miners without the services of junior running back Quintrevion Wisner, junior wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., sophomore wide receiver Emmett Mosley, and sophomore defensive tackle Alex January, all out with injuries.
Another storyline to watch? Whether Texas makes any changes along that offensive line. Redshirt junior Connor Robertson took some starting reps at the starting center position over senior Cole Hutson, although Hutson finished warmups snapping to redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning. Meanwhile, at left guard, redshirt sophomore Connor Stroh has struggled, but remains the starter over redshirt junior Neto Umeozulu.
