Well, it seems as though the Miami Hurricanes’ win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday night registered with the college football voters. Well, with one group, at least.
The national media returned the Miami Hurricanes to the top five, putting Miami #5 in the latest AP Poll that came out on Tuesday afternoon. It’s the first time since the week of Miami’s loss at Georgia Tech last year that the Canes have been in the top five. So, now, Miami’s back in the lofty place they stood 10 months ago
with that group.
The Canes didn’t quite make it back into the top 10 in the eyes of the coaches for some reason, as Miami came in at #7. It appears as though the coaches as a group see a Texas team who looked absolutely lost on offense as a more deserving team at this point. And, uh, Oregon blowing out *checks notes* uh, Montana State, apparently merits a top five spot.
Cool, fellas. Way to encourage tougher non-conference scheduling.
Yeah. Yeah. Rankings don’t mean anything from a substantive perspective. I know. No need to remind me. The College Football Playoff rankings that first come out in November are all that matter anymore. And they do.
But I still think it’s interesting to keep an eye on the pulse of what those in the media and on the sidelines think about what they’ve seen from the Miami Hurricanes and where they register in their minds. And after all, Rueben Bain, Jr. indicated after the game that players pay attention to stuff and keep things they see for motivation. Or at least he said he does, and I doubt he’s the only one.
So, fellas, have at it. More folks to persuade, I guess. Go Canes.
