With the first two phases in the books, the New England Patriots are about to kick the intensity of their offseason workout program up another notch. On Wednesday, the reigning AFC champions will hold their first organized team activity of the spring.
Just like the rest of the offseason program outside of mandatory minicamp, participation at OTAs is strictly voluntary. That being said, the expectation is that a majority of the healthy players on New England’s roster will be in attendance — as has
been the case since the start of the program in late April.
As was announced by the team previously, the Patriots will be holding eight OTA sessions over the next three weeks. The start time for these sessions has been set at 12:15 p.m. ET, pending any audibles being called by head coach Mike Vrabel.
- May 27 (Wed), May 29 (Fri)
- June 1 (Mon), June 2 (Tue), June 4 (Thu)
- June 8 (Mon), June 9 (Tue), June 11 (Thu)
After the eighth and final OTA session on June 11, the Patriots will transition to mandatory minicamp. As the name suggests, all available players are required to be in attendance for that particular three-day event on June 15-17.
OTAs and mandatory minicamp will be the first time this offseason that the Patriots will conduct 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills. Per the NFL-NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, neither full pads nor any live contact are permitted.
According to the team, the OTA sessions on May 27, June 2 and June 9 will be open to the media, with Mike Vrabel set to talk to reporters ahead of each session. All three days of mandatory minicamp will also have media access, meaning that Pats Pulpit’s Brian Hines and Andrew Guindon will be able to bring you wall-to-wall coverage from Gillette Stadium over the coming month.
