Hello
all! It was a quiet day in the early offseason, but we’ve got you covered on all of the latest happenings.
In Mariners news…
- Jorge Polanco declined his $6M player option, making him a free agent. The team is expected to make a strong push to retain him.
Around the league…
- The Seibu Lions are expected to post right-hander Kona Takahashi this winter. His modest strikeout totals make it unlikely he commands a huge contract, however.
- Jon Paul Morosi gave brief scouting reports on each of the big names expected to come to the majors from Asia this offseason.
- The Braves exercised their $18M club option on left-hander Chris Sale, keeping the would-be best starting pitching free agent off the market.
- Ben Clemens at Fangraphs ranked the top 50 free agents of the offseason.
- Brewers catcher William Contreras underwent surgery on his finger, which is expected to shelf him for the next 5-6 weeks. He should be recovered in time for spring training.
