In the midst of the Syracuse Orange’s four-game losing streak there has been a lot of chatter about needs in the transfer portal. While we don’t know who might depart Syracuse (although some of you seem to assume every starter with eligibility will be gone), it’s important that fans don’t forget about the current freshmen and the incoming 2026 class.
This week Fran Brown said he’d continue to get more snaps for young players and further down, I’ll look at their current redshirt status. As we get a look at more of
the 2025 class, we can’t lose sight that the three major recruiting services have the 2026 Syracuse class ranked in the top 30 in the country. ESPN ranks the Syracuse class 26th in the country, as those 247, while On3 has the Orange 29th. Russell, Rodgers, Gough, Wilson and Cooper all top 500
We know about Calvin Russell, but Amare Gough, Jarius Rodgers and Kamron Wilson are also highly regarded players in the class. There are 29 players currently committed in the class, joining the 33 who joined in 2025. Of that current group of freshmen, here’s where they stand in terms of games played. As a reminder players can play in four games and maintain their redshirt.
Syracuse’s two defensive starters stand out among the current group, but you can see which players the coaching staff has trusted in their first season in Orange. We’ll keep an eye on this list after each week, but when Fran Brown talks about building depth for a winning program, these two classes are going to have to be the foundation that it gets built upon.
