Illinois football is heading back on the road looking to get its season back on track, and FanDuel Sportsbook has the Illini as a slight favorite against Michigan State.
According to FanDuel’s opening odds, Illinois is a 3.5-point favorite in its upcoming matchup with the Spartans. The Illini opened at -106 against the spread, while Michigan State is listed at +3.5 (-114).
Illinois is also favored on the moneyline. FanDuel currently has the Illini at -162 to win outright, while Michigan State is listed
at +134.
The over/under for the game is set at 51.5 points, with the over at -106 and the under at -114. They’re expecting some score in the range of 27-24 in favor of the Illini. We’ll get to that in a second on if that’s even possible at this point.
Illinois enters the game at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play after falling to Purdue in a 24-17 loss. Saturday’s victory was the Boilermakers’ first in league play since late 2023. The Illini struggled to find consistency offensively in the second half against the Boilermakers, turning what was a competitive game into another frustrating conference loss.
Now, Illinois will have to regroup quickly with its same defensive issues and hit the road.
Michigan State enters the matchup with the same 2-3 overall record. The Spartans are also coming off a loss, falling to Wisconsin in a 31-3 blowout.
So Saturday in East Lansing is a chance for one of these teams to get a much-needed victory. It may also be the last best chance for both squads to pick up a W in 2026.
Despite Illinois’ struggles in Big Ten play, FanDuel is giving the Illini the edge heading into the matchup. Don’t read too much into that 3.5-point spread. It feels basically even, and MSU is getting some love for the home-field advantage.
For Illinois, getting the offense back on track will be priority No. 1. After scoring at least 40 points in each of its first two wins, the Illini are averaging just 18 points in each of their last two games (losses to OSU and Purdue).
A strong showing against Michigan State could provide Illinois with a chance to completely reset its season before a bye week and the second half of the season begins.
Illinois and Michigan State will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in East Lansing.
