Sunday was another busy day for injured Dodgers rehabbing with Triple-A Oklahoma City, with a few activations expected in the coming days.
Kiké Hernández on Sunday in Taco doubled, walked, and narrowly missed a home run on a fly out to the left field wall. He played left field on Sunday after playing third base and center field over the week, as well was two games at designated hitter.
Hernández was 5-for-14 (.357) with two doubles and two walks in his five games last week, and is expected to be activated
off the injured list during the Dodgers’ series against the Reds, manager Dave Roberts reiterated to reporters on Sunday morning at Petco Park in San Diego.
Hyeseong Kim has a hit in all four rehab games so far, going 5-for-16 (.333) with all singles. He played center field on Sunday, after games during the week in left field, shortstop, and DH. Wednesday’s game in left field was notable as it was Kim’s first time at the position since playing 44 games there in 2020 with Kiwoom in the KBO.
Michael Kopech pitched a scoreless inning on Sunday, his fourth straight scoreless appearance. His earliest possible activation from the 60-day injured list would be Wednesday.
Player of the day
Austin Gauthier had four hits for Triple-A Oklahoma City, including a two-run single that gave the Comets the lead for good. Gauthier had reached base multiple times in 13 of his last 19 games and owns a .500 on-base percentage in August.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Landon Knack allowed three runs through the first two innings but lasted through six innings, enough time for the Comets to complete a road comeback win over the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners).
Nick Senzel homered for Oklahoma City.
Double-A Tulsa
Carson Hobbs allowed two runs in the ninth inning, turning a Drillers lead into a walk-off loss to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals).
Luke Fox matched his longest professional outing, lasting six innings for the fourth time this season and the first time in Double-A, with seven strikeouts on Sunday. Fox allowed two runs and was in line for the win before the ninth-inning rally by the Naturals.
James Tibbs walked three times and has a .429 on-base percentage for Tulsa since getting acquired from Boston at the trade deadline.
High-A Great Lakes
The Loons scored only twice in a loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals), and settled for a split of the six-game series. Down two runs in the ninth, Great Lakes loaded the bases with the help of two hit batters, but Josue De Paula flew out to end the game.
Zyhir Hope doubled, singled, walked twice, and scored the first run for Great Lakes. It’s the fifth game this season he’s reached base four times.
Payton Martin allowed three runs, and left his start with one out in the fourth inning walking off the mound with the team trainer.
Kendall George had a tough task to follow his Midwest League player of the week award after a 14-steal, .996-OPS series in Wisconsin. He did well at the plate this week at Quad Cities with at least one hit in all five games, and hit .455 with a .520 on-base percentage. But with so much focus on him now, he was caught stealing in four of his five attempts, including once on Sunday. George has 83 steals with two more weeks remaining in the season.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
Quakes relievers allowed five runs in the eighth and ninth innings in a loss to the Modesto Nuts (Mariners). That spoiled a strong start by Sterling Patick with five scoreless innings and five srikeouts.
Third baseman Oswald Osorio homered twice for the Quakes. Landyn Vidourek, the Dodgers’ third-round draft pick last month, messed around and got a triple, double.
Transactions
Low-A: Pitcher Edgar Leon was promoted to the Quakes from the Arizona Complex League, and allowed two insurance runs in relief in the ninth inning in his Low-A debut. Michael Vilchez was released after the 21-year-old posted a 6.09 ERA in 44 1/3 innings with Rancho Cucamonga this season.
