Game notes
- After a two-game swing to central Canada and the Midwest, the Bruins return home to host the Ottawa Senators, who will be playing just their second game of the season. I’m not sure of the reasoning behind their slow schedule, but Ottawa didn’t open their season until Saturday night.
- That game was a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. That game saw the teams trade leads until Stephen Halliday scored the eventual game-winning goal midway through the third period.
- After Brady Tkachuk did the captain-ly thing and demanded a trade during the offseason, the Senators named Thomas Chabot captain before the season started. The defenseman responded with a goal, an assist, and more than 27 minutes of ice time in the season’s first game. Not too shabby.
- Old friend Linus Ullmark played well for Ottawa in their first game, stopping 27 of 29 shots. The Senators will also play tomorrow night in Detroit, so backup Samuel Ersson will get a game either tonight or in Detroit.
- The Bruins played well on their road trip, and emerging from Winnipeg and Minnesota with two points is a reasonable accomplishment. Special teams remain a concern for the Bruins, whose early-season PK and PP rank near the bottom of the league.
- Having said that, it’s a little silly to draw too many conclusions from a three-game sample size. And while some of the personnel have changed, Ottawa had a bottom-five penalty kill last season, so maybe tonight’s the night the power play cashes in.
- In case you missed it on Sunday, the B’s placed forward Mikey Eyssimont on waivers with the intention of assigning him to Providence. The Bruins haven’t said anything official about Matt Poitras’s status, but the clearing off a roster spot suggests his potential return may be close.
- Other than that, nothing much of note to report for the B’s — it was a quiet weekend after a pretty steady start to the season.
See
ya tonight!
