The final Syracuse athletes to compete in the 2025-26 season will take to the track in Eugene Oregon tonight for the start of the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. Let’s preview tonight’s action which is airing on ESPN:
First up is Benne Anderson in the 1500m at 8:21 pm et. Anderson will be the second of two heats of 12 runners. The top five in each heat plus the next two fastest times will advance into the final on Friday. Anderson’s time of 3:36.45 is the 6th-fastest in his heat, so while he has
the tougher draw, he also gains the advantage of knowing how fast he needs to run to advance to the final.
The 110m hurdles will be the next event for the Orange, starting at 9:08 pm. Jamir Brown will be in the first of three heats with the top two in each heat and next three fastest times advancing. Brown’s 13.25 time is 9th-best in the NCAA this season and 2nd-fastest in his heat. Can the former D3 champ advance in his first season with Syracuse?
The final Syracuse competitor will be Elijah Mallard in the 400m hurdles at 10:14 pm. Mallard in the first of three heats with the top two in each heat and next three fastest times advancing. Mallard’s 49.11 time is the 12-best in the country this season, but it’s only the fourth-fastest in his heat. He’ll have to come through with a strong race to keep his Orange career going.
We’ll have recaps of the action on Thursday.
