It was a game of runs. Dallas’ defense started off hot and gave the offense room to get up to an early 10-0 lead. However, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense came storming back, holding a lead for most of the game. Then in the fourth quarter, Jaishawn Barham and the Dallas defensive line woke back up again, allowing the Cowboys to go into the final seconds tied 31-31. The seven seconds Dallas had left on the board was too much, as one Zay Flowers completion and one Tyler Loop field goal later,
the Cowboys left Rio with a loss.

It’s still week three, so it’s difficult to place a lot of weight on this game. Especially given the Cowboys were underdogs. However, if the season comes down to the wire, Dallas fans will be circling this game as one they could have won.
If you thought we were for sure going to OT, you wouldn’t be alone. We should have been headed there, but the Cowboys’ defense had different plans.
They allowed a 27-yard reception, and Baltimore called a timeout with two seconds to play. Tyler Loop then drilled a 56-yard game-winner at the buzzer to send Dallas back home in embarrassing fashion.

This one is a tough one to re-live. However, don’t forget the big plays that put the Cowboys in an opportunity to steal one in Rio.
But Baltimore was again on the move as the clock ticked over into the final 15 minutes, with Jackson throwing a 31-yard pass to Rashod Bateman to end the third quarter and Flowers running around the left end for a 20-yard pickup to start the fourth.
And then the defense came up huge. The Ravens had a first-and-goal at the Dallas 3-yard line, but Jackson was stopped on a 1-yard loss, and Henry was stood up for gains of only 2 and 1, setting up a fourth-and-1 on the doorstep.

The blame this week will certainly fall on the Cowboys’ defense for failing to send this game to OT. However, don’t forget that Dallas could have gone up four points but failed to score from the one-yard line.
Brian Schottenheimer awful red zone play-calling
Baltimore had zero answer for Javonte Williams on Dallas’ opening drive. Schottenheimer called Williams’ number on four straight plays, and he bulldozed the Cowboys right to the doorstep of a touchdown.On 2nd-and-goal, he dialed up a play-action pass that was doomed from the start. Ryan Flournoy couldn’t fight through traffic, and Prescott’s pass fell incomplete. On third-and-goal, Schotty called another pass out of the shotgun. No dice.

Starting safety Jalen Thompson exited the contest in the first half and did not return for the remainder of the game. He was listed with a hamstring injury.

In more positive news, Dallas could be looking to beef up their secondary. With the Quinnen Williams trade, the Cowboys are draft-capital poor and would likely need to run themselves dry in 2027 picks to pull this off.
