For the first time in Canelo Alvarez’s illustrious boxing career the Mexico national anthem will not be sung later tonight (Sat., Sept. 13, 2025) LIVE on Netflix from inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to multiple reports across the boxing landscape (including Mexican news outlet Esto en Linea), promoters will skip all national anthems for tonight’s superfight between Canelo and undefeated pound-for-pound standout, Terence Crawford. It’s a rare occasion in boxing, especially
for an event celebrating Mexican Independence Day.
In case you forgot, UFC CEO Dana White is co-promoting tonight’s Netflix card alongside Turki Al-Sheikh. White had already promised that the night will “move fast” compared to other standout boxing cards. The UFC front man has always hated lengthy introductions — especially when it comes to boxing — so it’s not a huge surprise that tonight’s Canelo vs. Crawford card looks a little different.
White, who bragged earlier this week about promoting two of the three biggest boxing cards of all time, has never liked extended introductions for UFC events either. Still, it’s a bit shocking to see no national anthems at all. Was the pre-fight planning even ran by Canelo or Crawford?
It might not matter when you’re making $100 million.
