According to a report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich recently held a “secret conference” internally where staffers were brought together for a workshop to discuss things like areas for improvement and burnout:
Secret conference at FC Bayern! Christian Falk and Tobias Altschäffl reveal in the new episode of the BILD podcast ” Bayern Insider” that a large meeting of the club recently took place in Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Falk: “The whole thing was initiated by Max Eberl.”
Altschäffl adds: “It was a workshop
that lasted eight hours. All departments from the field of sports were involved. The whole thing was called ‘Workshop Analysis Status Quo Sport’.”
And further: “Kathleen Krüger helped a lot. All departments reported on their progress and what they could still improve.”
Since June of last year, the former team manager has been “Senior Leading Expert Sport Strategy & Development” at FC Bayern. Krüger’s responsibilities no longer include the team; instead, she is now responsible for overarching club matters. Her current main project is the construction of the new training center on Säbener Straße.
Altschäffl reports in the podcast that sporting director Eberl also spoke openly about his burnout during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The discussion focused on “recognizing warning signs and taking care of oneself.”
Eberl resigned as sporting director of Borussia Mönchengladbach in early 2022 after a total of 23 years in various roles, citing mental exhaustion. When Eberl took over as managing director at RB Leipzig in December 2022 – just a few months after leaving Gladbach – he was subjected to severe insults, including from Gladbach “fans”.
While many employees dread this kind of seminar in the corporate world, the themes take on a whole new meaning in the world of professional sports. Surely, with some of the brainpower and experience in that meeting, the Bayern Munich staffers involved were able leave the seminar more assured of the club and themselves than they were going into it.
