ONE heavyweight champion Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane was forced to postpone his upcoming title fight (and ONE 169 rematch) against Anatoly Malykhin after his involvement in a “serious car accident” earlier
this week in UAE. Kane vs. Malykhin was scheduled for the ONE 173 co-main event on Nov. 16 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
“The 33-year-old Senegalese superstar was involved in a serious car accident in the United Arab Emirates and will be unable to compete inside Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on Sunday, November 16,” officials wrote on social media.
“The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but the setback marks a devastating blow for the Senegalese superstar, who was preparing to defend his heavyweight crown for the first time in front of a massive Japanese crowd.”
Kane (7-1) is the winner of four straight, which includes his split-decision win over Malykhin last fall in Bangkok. As for the 37 year-old “Sladkiy” (14-1), who also owns a pair of victories over UFC middleweight Reinier de Ridder, his “Reug Reug” loss marked the first of his professional career — which includes 14 finishes in 14 wins.
