AEW holds its biggest show of the year when All In takes place from Wembley Stadium in London, England on Sunday, August 30. Naturally, WWE felt compelled to counterprogram by booking a back-to-back serving of AAA Ola de Calor and NXT Heatwave from Edinburg, Texas. NXT has done their job of creating a card. However, the AAA side was blank. That changed when AAA revealed the feature attraction, and it’s not a match,
The star of the show for AAA Ola de Calor will be a contract signing between Dominik
Mysterio and El Grande Americano for the Mega Championship bout at Triplemania 34. General manger Rey Mysterio oversees the proceedings.
On one hand, it makes sense to feature AAA’s two biggest stars who are currently engaged in a hot feud. On the other hand, I can’t say this announcement fills me with excitement on a special to counterprogram AEW All In. Who knows, maybe this segment will lead to a tag team match between Dirty Dom and EGA.
NXT Heatwave is easier to take the pulse as counterprogramming material. That card currently includes:
- NXT Championship: Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Grayson Waller vs. Cruz Montana vs. Zilla Fatu
- NXT Women’s Championship: Kendal Grey (c) vs. Kelani Jordan
- Unification Bout: NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria (c) vs. WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair (c)
- NXT North American Championship: Myles Bourne (c) vs. Jackson Drake
- NXT Tag Team Championship: Myles Borne & Tavion Heights (c) vs. The Vanity Project (Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes)
What’s your take on AAA counterprogramming AEW with a contract signing? Will that put butts in seats? What else would you like to see on Ola de Calor?
