The Cardiac Frogs struck again this past Sunday as a late goal from AJ Hennessey powered TCU to a 2-1 win over in-state rival Texas A&M. The Frogs battled through a great performance from the Texas A&M goalie to hand the Aggies their first loss of the 2025 season. Number four ranked TCU moved to 5-1-0 with the win, bouncing back nicely from a loss to Northwestern in their last game.
Both offenses started the game slowly with no shots from either team and two offsides calls on TCU in the first fifteen minutes of the game. The Frogs eventually settled in and had an extended offensive possession that resulted in a shot from Seven Castain and a penalty on Texas A&M that earned a penalty kick for the Frogs. TCU was unable to convert on the penalty as the Aggie goalie made a nice save on the attempt from Emma Yolinsky. The teams traded shots in the next five minutes before the TCU offense produced a string of solid chances with a shot from Castain and a couple of corner kicks. Neither team was able to produce much offense as both teams combined for just one shot in the final fifteen minutes of the half. At halftime, TCU had the only shot on goal of the game which came on the penalty kick as both offenses struggled to create quality chances and both defenses had solid performances.
However, the TCU offense started the second half quickly with a goal off the foot of Sydney Becerra who transferred to TCU from Texas A&M this offseason. The senior midfielder made a nice move at the top of the box to create separation and made a great shot to beat the goalie and find the back of the net. Castain and Yolinski, another transfer from Texas A&M, picked up the assists on the goal.
Both offenses picked up the pace following the goal with the teams trading corner kicks in the next few minutes. Texas A&M then found the equalizer courtesy of a goal from Leah Diaz in the 57th minute, tying the game at 1. Diaz had another good chance with a shot on goal just a minute later that was saved by Olivia Geller who started in goal for the Frogs. Emma Yolinski had two good chances for the Frogs with a shot on goal in the 59th minute that took a great save from the A&M goalie to stop and a shot that missed left in the 60th minute. The defenses settled in a bit as there was a nine minute gap between shots before Cameron Patton had a chance for the Frogs. Patton’s shot resulted in a corner kick that created a chance for Kaela Martinez who caught the crossbar on her shot that ultimately stayed out of the net. Castain was the next Frog to be denied by the Texas A&M goalie with a shot on goal in the 71st minute. Patton’s attempt at a go ahead goal was again turned away as Sydney Fuller continued her excellent night in goal for Texas A&M. Finally in the 85th minute, AJ Hennessey collected a rebound off of a saved Emma Yolinski shot and buried a header for a game winning goal. This was the latest in a string of clutch victories for the Frogs as TCU is 4-1 in games decided by one goal in 2025.
The Frogs will wrap up their non-conference schedule this Friday when they face off against Gonzaga at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium in Fort Worth at 7:00 pm.
