At the end of last month, Joey Janela and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) announced that The Sandman will wrestle his final match at Janela’s Spring Break X on April 17. Last night, an opponent was announced for the last hurrah of a historic career.
Janela shared that the wrestler that will have the honor of facing the ECW legend will be [drumroll]…The Invisible Man.
For those who
don’t know, The Invisible Man has made wrestling “appearances” at various independent promotions since around 2012, notably in DDT Wrestling and GCW. He’s appeared at Janela’s Spring Breaks before, winning the event’s Clusterf*ck battle royal in 2018.
In February 2019, GCW announced The Invisible Man had passed away at the age of 49. However, he was able to return from the dead months later to take on his brother, Invisible Stan, at that year’s Spring Break.
As you can see in the video below, The Invisible Man is pretty much a “what you don’t see is what you get” kind of thing.
In the case of The Invisible Man’s match against his equally invisible brother, the referee really put in a lot of work. This match went viral while sparking outrage from wrestling purists.
GCW fans last “saw” The Invisible Man in last year’s 90-man Clusterf*ck at Janela’s Spring Break 9, which was eventually won by the 13-year-old Brodie Lee, Jr.
The Sandman, 62, became one of the faces of ECW in the 1990s as a brawler who entered the ring to Metallica while chugging beers and puffing on cigarettes. He also had brief stints in WCW, WWE, and TNA before scaling back in recent years to semi-retirement with occasional appearances at indie events.
Last year, fellow ECW icon Sabu wrestled Janela at Spring Break 9 in his own final match, which featured a run-in from The Sandman en route to a Sabu victory. Sadly, Sabu would pass away only weeks later.
The Sandman’s own match could likely feature spots from other stars of his era, as Janela’s Spring Break shows go heavy on the theatrics. Since his announcement last night on X (Twitter), Janela has been responding with trolling messages to some fans complaints about the choice of The Invisible Man as The Sandman’s opponent, which further suggests that surprises can be expected.
