This past weekend, reliable baseball reporter Bob Nightengale wrote a column in which he talked about the offseason to come. Mostly focusing on ten questions that are likely to be the hot topics of said offseason, Nightengale also gave a bunch of names that he thinks have the best shot at getting traded. The names are:
- Joe Ryan
- Pablo Lopez
- Hunter Greene
- Ketel Marte (“motivated” to move him)
- Sandy Alcantara
- Fernando Tatis, Jr.
- Sonny Gray
- Christian Walker
- Nolan Arenado
- Freddy Peralta
- MacKenzie Gore
- Steven Kwan
- Jarren Duran
- Edward Cabrera
- Mitch Keller
- Luis Severino
- Spencer Jones
This is certainly a list of names. Some of them are just Nightengale speculating about how available they might even be, but we’ve already seen and heard about players like Peralta,
Gore and Alcantara probably getting dealt this offseason to help build up those organizations.
The question is: which is the one the Phillies should track down the most? For me, it’s an easy call.
Trade what is needed for Tatis. It would quite literally take care of the right field position for the next ten years. Obviously the cost would be prohibitive, but, and this is just me riffing a bit, if San Diego were amenable to something like Aidan Miller and Aroon Escobar heading up a package to bring him in, that’s something you without blinking.
