The New York Knicks (6–3) return to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night to face the Memphis Grizzlies (4–7) and aim for their fifth straight win.
The Grizzlies arrive short-handed, heavier on the blues than the rhythm. Memphis has dropped three of its last four, most recently a 114–100 loss to the Thunder in which they shot 39% from the field. Ty Jerome (calf), Brandon Clarke (knee), Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe), and Zach Edey (ankle) are all out, leaving coach Tuomas Iisalo scrambling to patch together
coherent lineups. Drama surrounds Ja Morant, and statistically the team is middling at best. They hurl a healthy load of three-pointers (almost 40 per game), but convert 34%.
The Knicks come in as favorites, thanks to a dominant stretch that’s brought them to second in NBA’s offensive ranking (122.8 ppg). Scoring 271 points over the last two games helped. Mike Brown’s team has looked sharper with each outing, striking a harmonious balance between offensive precision and defensive grit.
Jalen Brunson continues to steer the ship, averaging 27.2 points and 6.2 assists, while Karl-Anthony Towns anchors the frontcourt with 12.7 rebounds per contest. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges have provided two-way punch on the wings, hitting a combined 47% from three. And when Mitchell Robinson plays, it’s simply unfair.
Prediction
ESPN.com likes NY at 77%. Ditto. New York’s depth, ball movement, and home-court energy should overwhelm a short-handed Memphis squad still trying to find its footing. Another night of efficient offense and stingy defense would give the Knicks their seventh win at Madison Square Garden and solidify their reputation as one of the East’s most complete teams through the season’s first month. Knicks win by 14.
