Josip Stanišić is back in familiar surroundings and feeling positive ahead of Bayern Munich’s Franz Beckenbauer Supercup clash with Borussia Dortmund.
After spending nearly three years in Bayern Munich’s youth setup, Stanišić says returning to the club has been a special experience. He also believes the team is in good shape following the preseason victory over RB Leipzig.
“I spent just under three years here in the youth setup and really enjoyed it. That’s why I’m absolutely delighted to be back.
The team are in good shape, as we saw in the match against Leipzig. Unfortunately, I was sidelined for a few days myself, but I’m feeling fine again now,” said Stanišić (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “This week, the focus is on fitness and working through the tactics with everyone who’s returned. It’s about fine-tuning the details and preparing as well as possible for the Supercup. I’ve got a good feeling about Saturday.”
That final sentence will certainly catch the attention of Bayern Munich supporters.
The Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund will be the first competitive test of the new season, and Bayern Munich will want to begin the campaign with a trophy.
For Stanišić, it is also an opportunity to build on his return and continue establishing himself as an important part of Vincent Kompany’s squad. His versatility and defensive reliability could be particularly valuable throughout a long season.
With the squad now turning its full attention toward Dortmund, Stanišić is clearly confident that Bayern Munich are heading into the Supercup in a strong position.
