1) A bill of lies
We were told all offseason that this defense was built to stop the run. Meanwhile, Northwestern ran for 413 yards, with the top two backs both topping 160 yards apiece. A new stadium doesn’t do that to you.
2) Quitting is for losers
It took 12 years to get a team to just quit in the other guy. It’s apparently taken five games with this one.
3) Iowa State East is real
I refused to believe it all offseason, but maybe importing half of Iowa State here wasn’t the best plan. Yet, Matt Campbell had no choice. He was hired after the 2026 recruiting cycle closed,
had a month to retain as many players as he could before the portal opened, and apparently the money promised evaporated before anyone else of note could transfer in.
It’s too early to close the chapter on the Matt Campbell era, and I sincerely hope I never have to do this, but, planting that seed is never a bad deal: I hope all the people who hated Sandy Barbour but love this meathead are watching.
