Having all of Juventus’ best players available for the biggest fixtures in Serie A and the Champions League seems like something we haven’t been able to say all that often over the last few years. That’s
mainly because arguably the best of the bunch on the current roster, center back Gleison Bremer, has missed the vast majority of the past 14 months due to a pair of knee injuries.
But Bremer, who has been out since early October thanks to a torn meniscus, looks to be closing in on something that everybody has been looking forward to the past six weeks — a return to the field.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport late Monday, Bremer has made the trip to Lyon for a check-up with his doctors — and, thankfully, the green light has been given for him to make his return to the field in the near future. The question is, and I can’t emphasize this enough, “WHEN WILL YOU BE BACK? WILL IT BE SOON, GLEISON?!” Yes, the all-caps phrasing is necessary because Juventus’ defense needs Bremer back in the worst possible way and so that new manager Luciano Spalletti can get his best player not named Kenan Yildiz back on the field as soon as possible. While we don’t know when that may be just yet — and can’t necessarily rely on many updates from Juventus these days — but there is a growing sense that the early part of December could be Bremer’s target point.
Like, say, Juventus’ Dec. 7 matchup against Antonio Conte and defending Serie A champions Napoli in Naples.
Considering that is a little less than three weeks away, that might still be a very tight window for Bremer to regain match fitness and be at the point where he could play a full 90 for Spalletti in the first matchup against his former side since leading them to their first Scudetto in three decades. But, given the fact that the doctors have reportedly given a thumbs up to his progress so far, we can probably start thinking about when the big Brazilian defender can be back in the lineup again.
But, again, the question of when Bremer will be back in the starting lineup is still a question mark.
It probably comes as no surprise that one of the more physically imposing players Juve have on their roster these days has been posting some workout photos to social media while he’s at his home gym and at Continassa over the last couple of weeks. According to Tuttosport late last week when writing about Bremer’s recovery, part of those workouts and recovery sessions have included the use of an AlterG treadmill — which costs a cool $75,000 in some cases! — that is a machine that uses technology developed by NASA.
It’s a cool little detail in a process that has seen Bremer go from a guy who is in his first few weeks back in competitive football following his ACL surgery two Octobers ago to now coming back from a separate knee injury that could very well be related to the first one in some kind of way.
Just be safe on that treadmill, my friend. Your return to the field is close. We don’t need any sort of setbacks now.
