The Syracuse Orange (3-3, 1-2) welcome a familiar foe to the JMA Wireless Dome as the Bye Week University (0-6, 0-0) come to town. Coach Bran Frown’s squad hasn’t won, but that hasn’t stopped them from gaining some acclaim from Frown’s “Punters Get Squashed” special teams philosophy. On any punt attempt from an opponent, the Byes send all 11 players after the kick, and when they are forced to punt, they only leave two players in to block.
It’s why Bye U leads the nation in allowing punts to be blocked
and is last in punt return yardage.
Here’s what we’re watching for in this one:
Kevin: Controlling Yillis and Wixon
The Fightin’ Byes are all about running the ball and Syracuse will have to slow down the duo of Wasin Yillis and Nill Wixon on Saturday. It’s been a struggle to stop the run for the Orange defense so they will need to rally to the ball and do a better job tackling.
Dom: Playing the clock
The notorious Fightin’ Byes offense is going to be tough to stop, and putting pressure on their QB will be equally as difficult of a task. Coming off the SMU game, only Tamie Jremble recorded a sack for the Orange’s defense. Milk the clock with Yillis and Wixon, give Cickie Rollins some easy quick throws and turn this into a 13-10 slugfest.
