Triple-A: Worcester Red Sox 4, Norfolk Tides 3 – F/10
For the second night in a row, the Tides lost in extra innings.
Luis De León allowed one run in each of the first two innings, one unearned thanks to a José Barrero error. Barrero got the run back with a home run in the bottom of the first. De León lasted into the sixth inning, with a final pitching line of 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.
Enrique Bradfield, Jr. had two hits, including an RBI double in the seventh to tie the game. Relief pitcher Andrew Magno gave up a two-run homer in the 10th and
took the loss.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 9, Altoona Curve (PIT) 8
Patrick Reilly struck out eight batters and walked none in four innings. Unfortunately, he also gave up six runs on eight hits, including two home runs.
Wehiwa Aloy had a four-hit day, including three doubles. Victor Figueroa hit his first Double-A homer after mashing 22 with Frederick. He had two hits and five RBI. Aron Estrada went 0-for-5. Thomas Sosa and Frederick Bencosme also had two hits apiece.
It was a back-and-forth game that went into the ninth inning with the Baysox down, 8-7. Figueroa knocked in the tying run on a ground out and Griff O’Farrell hit the game-winning sac fly.
High-A: Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) 4, Frederick Keys 4 – F/11
JT Quinn started for the Keys and allowed two runs in 5.2 innings. He got off to a strong start and faced the minimum through three innings. He did allow one hit, a double. But he immediately picked off the runner. The Blue Rocks scored an unearned run in the fourth thanks to an error by Andrés Nolaya at first base. In the sixth, the Nats #1 prospect, Eli Willits, took Quinn deep.
The Keys’ offense was almost solely provided by Edwin Amparo and Luis Vázquez. In the third, Amparo singled and scored on a Vázquez hit. Amparo homered in the fifth. After the Blue Rocks went up 4-2 in the top of the 11th, Amparo was the free runner. He scored the Keys’ third run on another Vázquez single. Amparo had two hits in the game; Vázquez had three.
Low-A: Hickory Crawdads (TEX) 7, Delmarva Shorebirds 0
The Shorebirds managed just two hits, singles by Jaiden Lo Rae and Stiven Martinez. Martinez also walked. The Shorebirds struck out twelve times.
Jake Dykhoff allowed three runs over 6.2 innings. He walked two, struck out five, and gave up two home runs. Relief pitcher Kenny Leiner gave up three runs in 1.1 innings.
