Bayern Munich will have plenty of challenges ahead in the Champions League league phase, and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is under no illusion that the club received an easy draw.
Dreesen highlighted several of the major tests awaiting Bayern Munich, including a trip to face Atlético Madrid and a highly anticipated visit to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
At home, Bayern Munich will welcome Arsenal, giving the club another opportunity to face one of Europe’s strongest teams after the English
champions reached last season’s Champions League final.
“They are by no means easy opponents. We have some real tough tests, including Atlético Madrid, who are always a difficult team to face, and Manchester United away at Old Trafford, in front of a fantastic crowd. At home, we’ll face Arsenal, the English champions and last season’s finalists. Then we have a few less familiar opponents, such as Viking. I’m really looking forward to that game and to the trip to Norway. We’ll also face Bodø/Glimt at home, who caused a few surprises last season. Overall, these are opponents we have a lot of respect for, but we want to beat them,” Dreesen said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
While Atlético, Manchester United and Arsenal will naturally attract most of the attention, Dreesen also singled out the excitement surrounding the less familiar opponents.
The trip to Norway to face Viking will provide a new experience for Bayern Munich, while Bodø/Glimt have already demonstrated that they should not be underestimated.
