The Sixers received some positive national attention for once on Tuesday, as Tyrese Maxey was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
.Here are some choice cuts from the good-natured appearance…
“Man, I’m getting there. I’m getting there. I’m close,” Maxey says when Fallon asked him about the injured pinky finger that’s kept him sidelined since March 7.
Maxey talks about how he’s all in on Philly now after Fallon brought up that he’s a Texas native. While the cooler weather was an initial
adjustment, Maxey does say that a Texas element that stays with him in the City of Brotherly Love is his Cowboys fandom. “My dad wouldn’t let me back in the house if I was a full on Eagles fan,” Maxey says.
Fallon also asked Maxey about being a leader on this Sixers team. Maxey says rookie VJ Edgecombe is “like a little brother” to him.
The conversation also covers Maxey’s latest New Balance signature sneaker, which the All-Star guard calls, “a dream come true,” while saying that he was a “super, super big sneakerhead” growing up.
Maxey’s appearance took a fun, pop culture-centric turn when the topic of Marvel came up. Maxey is well known to be a Marvel superfan, so Fallon asked him about what his Avengers starting lineup would be for the NBA playoffs.
Here are Maxey’s comparisons:
Spider-Man: Himself or Donovan Mitchell.
Iron Man: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Hulk: Isaiah Stewart.
Captain America: LeBron James.
Thor: Luka Dončić.
