We’ve all been aware of Mike Tomlin’s affection for Aaron Rodgers, dating back to the infamous smile and head nod when the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Packers in Green Bay a handful of years ago.
The romance between the two is undeniable.
This week, Tomlin spoke to Bob Labriola of Steelers.com about why Rodgers is an upgrade over last year’s signal callers, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
“He has a unique resume,” Tomlin
said. “And not only a unique resume and experience, but those who have watched practice realize he still has very unique arm talent. There’s not a throw that he can’t make from any body position or angle. He’s a unicorn. He’s one-of-one. And so it makes it a totally different conversation.”
There is immense pressure on Tomlin to win this season, as the Steelers’ streak of not winning a playoff game has extended to eight years. He has the highest-paid defense in the league, and now he’s added a signal-caller who, in his eyes, represents an improvement. They are a team that won ten games and made the playoffs last season. With Rodgers at the helm, Tomlin knows it’s time to take that next step.
