In January, Liverpool signed standout 18-year-old Austrian centre half Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien for €3M, with the player completing his move to Merseyside in the summer and impressing in pre-season where he was the surprise standout for new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Unfortunately, though, the tall young defender came up just short when it came to qualifying for a work permit (thanks, Brexit) and so despite looking good enough to at least head into the season as a cup starter and league depth
option, it was always known that Ndukwe would have to head out on loan.
Today, it appears he and the club have chosen La Liga’s Levante as that loan destination, and with the player close enough to likely qualify for a work permit with just a few starts in a top league reports have stressed the loan includes a January break clause that could see him return early.
Levante finished 16th last season and only avoided relegation on goal difference, but the Valencia-based club seems a safe bet for playing time and with the Reds signing Ronald Araujo, if Ndukwe establishes himself as a starter it wouldn’t be a shock if he spends the entire season in Spain.
