Fall may not be in the air in Georgia, but I swear on Steve Spurrier’s five iron that college football is right around the corner. And that means there’s some genuine football news out on the wires. Let’s take a quick stroll through the high points before you hit the door to do lesser non-football things.
Kirby Smart talked yesterdayabout a wide variety of subjects including Saturday’s scrimmage (some good, some meh), Drew Bobo’s health (fantastic), the chances of Cole Speer returning for a fifth
season to bolster a young receiving corps (potentially maybe?), Juan Gaston (trying to improve every day), Cortez Smith (trying to improve every day), and the nice lady who makes the pastries in the cafeteria (she’s trying to improve every day).
Actually I made that last one up, but I’m pretty sure Kirby was thinking it. The danishes are good, but not yet great. But I also think the thing Kirby isn’t saying but may be thinking is that this Bulldog defense could be very, very good. That may explain some of the offense
In preseason award news, the Red and Black placed eleven players on the Coaches’ Preseason All-SEC list, including four on the first team, and three offensive linemen overall. That and a dollar will get you a quarter of a cup of coffee (inflation, amirite?) but still, it’s a reminder that this squad is loaded with proven talent.
Finally, a hearty congratulations to legendary Bulldog Loran Smith, who’s being inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. It’s a long overdue honor for one of Wrightsville’s best and one of the most passionate Dawgs out there. I just hope that Charles Grant is able to make the induction ceremony and brings the peanuts. Now go attack the day.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
