FC Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen has been catching the eye. Since his nomination to Jürgen Klopp’s 44-man Germany roster for the combined September/October international period, the 28-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, has already seen his name linked to Bayern Munich — albeit for a likely reserve role behind Jonas Urbig.
Given the situation, Augsburg may just have to let him go, and Dahmen should have his pick of destinations.
“Based on his performances, Finn is one of the top goalkeepers
in the Bundesliga,” stated FC Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum (via Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “And if someone is among the best in the Bundesliga, they’re certainly on the radar of the top teams.
“We have several players in the squad who are really attracting interest. We are in talks with Finn — nevertheless, it’s part of Augsburg’s philosophy to sometimes let players who maybe perform above the expectations leave.”
Such is the reality for most of the Bundesliga’s clubs not named Bayern Munich. Augsburg started hot this season, with a 3-0 win over Schalke and a 4-1 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt before stumbling against Leverkusen (2-2) and SV Werder Bremen (a 3-2 loss). The other Bavarian club is currently fourth in the table.
