The Rams would be better served to draft Omar Cooper Jr. over Jordyn Tyson, according to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah. Although Tyson is rated higher almost anywhere you look, if not considered the best receiver in the draft in some places, Jeremiah questions his toughness and durability on The Mina Kimes podcast, a YouTube show.
“I didn’t thin (Tyson) was super, super competitive to and through the ball. If I think about the Rams, I wrote down in my notes that Omar Cooper Jr., who’s not as talented
as Tyson, he’s a more Rams-y receiver to me.”
Cooper broke out in his fourth season at Indiana with new quarterback Fernando Mendoza and second-year head coach Curt Cignetti, posting 937 yards and 13 touchdowns on 69 catches. He’s lauded for his yards-after-catch ability and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compares him to Deebo Samuel.
However, he still has him going on day 2, like Samuel did.
Big, strong target whose two-year rise is bolstered by translatable tape. While he was a full-time slot receiver in 2025, Cooper has played outside, as well. He can stem and drive past press with his strength. He has potent early acceleration to climb past nickelbacks into top position to challenge deep. His routes lack polish and he has average in-and-out quickness at break-points, but he’s rugged once the ball is in his hands. His ability to add yards after contact could earn Cooper more carries than we saw from him at Indiana. Fighting for catch space and blocking for the running game are areas where he needs improvement. Cooper is an ascending slot bully with Day 2 value.
If Jeremiah sees Cooper as a perfect fit for the Rams, does that mean he thinks they should reach and take him at 13? What if they can’t trade down? What if they can’t trade up from the second round? That other second round pick that they traded for Trent McDuffie would have helped here, but they do have Trent McDuffie now.
It could mean that if Tyson is on the board at 13, the Rams could be getting a player who in some ways won’t resemble the hits they’ve had like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, the latter being arguably the toughest receiver in the NFL.
It could be a stretch for the Rams to be in position for either of these players.
