Aston Villa wants lower fee for Palhinha (Sport Bild’s Julian Agardi and Nico Linner)
Aston Villa could be ramping up its interest in Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha, but has determined that the Bavarians are still asking for too much money for the Portuguese 31-year-old:
Aston Villa are still showing strong interest in João Palhinha. The clubs have so far been unable to reach an agreement over the terms of a transfer. Bayern are demanding around €25m, deemed too much by Villa. Friday’s friendly between the two teams will offer them a chance to negotiate face to face. Even though
Palhinha said that he wanted to fight for his place at Bayern, his entourage is still listening to offers. If he sees no prospect of fair treatment and sporting competition at Bayern, Palhinha would be willing to leave, provided he receives a convincing offer.
At some point, Bayern Munich will have to weigh what is better — selling Palhinha for a lower fee just to get his salary off the books…or to continue to wait this out and hope someone gets desperate at the end of the transfer window.
Palhinha has been a good soldier and has not complained about his standing at all. He deserves a fresh start and hopefully he gets it.
Bayern Alumni: Früchtl heads to Salzburg (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Christian Früchtl was once thought to be a potential successor to Manuel Neuer, but that plan did not exactly work out.
Now, the 26-year-old is headed to Red Bull Salzburg:

Barca still wants Álvarez (ESPN)
FC Barcelona is still hoping to bring in Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, which seems like a total longshot, given how Atléti has handled the situation:
Barcelona are calm about signing Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid and could even decide not to add a striker if they can’t bring in the Argentina international, report Spanish newspaper Diario Sport. Having lost striker Robert Lewandowski, Barça added Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi to an attacking line that already features the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Atlético have been upset with Barça since the club made a €100 million offer for Alvarez, but the forward wants them to negotiate.
Gakpo to Spurs? (TEAMtalk)
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly has interest in Liverpool attacker and former Bayern Munich transfer target Cody Gakpo:
Cody Gakpo and his camp have held positive discussions with Tottenham and the Dutchman is open to making the move, while TEAMtalk can reveal the decision Liverpool have made on the potential sale.
TEAMtalk revealed earlier this summer that Spurs had identified Gakpo as a player of interest and sources have confirmed that admiration has not gone away.
TEAMtalk understands discussions with the player’s representatives have been positive, with Gakpo’s camp receptive to hearing Tottenham’s plans and believing this summer could represent the right moment for him to seriously consider a new challenge.
While Gakpo knows he will continue to play an important role under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, there is a growing acceptance that he may not be viewed as a guaranteed first-choice option over the longer term.
Bayern won’t chase Bontempo (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Despite reports to the contrary, Bayern Munich will not try to make a move for Gabriel Bontempo:
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern Munich won’t go for Gabriel Bontempo this summer. If there was an offer, as has been claimed elsewhere, this wasn’t confirmed to me. At the moment, I don’t think there is an offer because the midfield is packed with players playing his position. Max Eberl made it very clear that further incomings won’t be happening at the present time. They have Brown and Saibari, and that’s it for now. If they sell any players, perhaps they’ll do something else. But when you listen to Eberl’s words, you get the impression they’d be looking more at a centre-back than anything else.
They want to sell Hiroki Ito. Alphonso Davies will stay in the squad, despite rumours that Bayern want to sell the Canadian. Ito, they’d sell him, but they don’t necessarily need a player in this position, because Brown can cover here also. Max Eberl made it very clear that Bayern want to sell, and they have to sell Bryan Zaragoza, Sacha Boey and João Palhinha. They put a lot of pressure on the players, and it was made clear that they don’t have a future at the club.
Don’t forget Bayern are also signing a talented player from Gambino Stars (with whom they have a partnership), Bara Ndiaye. He will have a place in the squad like Aséko had.
El Khannouss on the move? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
VfB Stuttgart attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss emerged as a good player in the Bundesliga last season and might now be looking for a move. However, the number that Stuttgart wants for him could be prohibitive:

He is open to a move. VfB Stuttgart are aware of the situation but would prefer to keep him. If they were to sell, they would demand up to €60m plus bonuses.
There have been two initial enquiries from Premier League clubs, but nothing concrete at this stage.
