A position that can never have enough depth, Ohio State is constantly looking to add talent in the trenches. What should be a rather veteran group up front for the Buckeyes in 2026, Tyler Bowen and the rest
of the offensive staff had ideas to further improve their unit, and did just that on Wednesday with their latest addition.
Coming via the transfer portal, Dartmouth transfer Vasean Washington committed to Ohio State, further improving the room and keeping a veteran presence intact.
A Springfield, Ohio native, bringing Washington back to his home state is a win considering the helpful experience and depth he brings. A 6-foot-5, 285 pound offensive tackle, Vasean is the 135th best player at his position per the 247Sports transfer portal rankings. Not a player that will be counted on to starter out of the gate, Washington’s upside is worth taking a shot on, and Ohio State had the roster availability to do so.
Overall, the amount of games under his belt brings a ton of positives to the team. An option that not only provides quality depth, but could fill in regardless of situation, that’s an addition you say yes to every time. Not to mention, seeing all the names leave their roster via the portal, it only makes filling the void that much more important.
Five-star safety gets Ohio State visit on Wednesday
Ohio State’s staff has been all over the map the last two weeks. The Buckeye coaches aren’t taking any breaks this offseason, putting the time in to add the players they so covert.
Making their rounds to see top players on their recruiting boards every day of the week, Wednesday was no different as safeties coach Matt Guerrieri hit the West Coast to see five-star target and San Diego, California product, Honor Fa’alave-Johnson.
The No. 16 player nationally and top safety in the 2027 class per the 247Sports Composite, Fa’alave-Johnson has nearly 40 offers to his name and from every major program in the country including Ohio State. Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, USC, and a host of others in the mix.
The Buckeyes are making it known early how highly they think of Fa’alave-Johnson as a player. Showing him he’s a priority, what Ohio State can pitch is the fact that they are more in the West Coast more than ever before with USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington all being in the Big Ten.
If that’s not enough, they will have a shot to beat USC on the field and in Los Angeles this coming season.
A position the Buckeyes are developing well, Ohio State is never out of the mix and won’t go away quietly if there’s a player they really want.
Quick Hits
A 2027 recruiting class that’s off to a very strong start, Ohio State is showing little sign of slowing down. Up to nine commitments this far, the Buckeyes rank as the top class per Rivals and the third best via 247Sports. Plenty of work to be done, some more good news could be coming soon as the latest Crystal Ball prediction was made for in-state native, Davis Seaman.
A 6-foot-4, 275 pound offensive tackle prospect, Seaman is listed as the No. 439 player nationally and 38th best offensive lineman in the 2027 class per the 247Sports Composite. Over 20 offers from the likes of Auburn, Illinois, Kentucky, Penn State, Vanderbilt, and plenty more, the Buckeyes look to have the inside track here at keeping one of their very own at home for his college career.
Coming from the Columbus area Bishop Watterson program, the Buckeyes don’t have to look far if they want a closer look, and apparently they have seen all they need to. It won’t be a shock to see him in the fold sooner rather than later.
