The Michigan Wolverines made some headlines last Saturday before their game against New Mexico, as running backs coach Tony Alford called and offered 2027 five-star athlete Myson Johnson-Cook as he was in the stands at the Ohio State-Texas game. It was a bold move, even if it was unintentional (that’s what it sounded like, at least).
Michigan went back on the recruiting trail on Friday afternoon to extend an offer to 2027 four-star offensive lineman Jackson Roper. The funny thing here is that the 6-foot-5,
285-pounder from Englewood, Colorado will actually be in Norman tomorrow night for the Michigan vs Oklahoma game.
Not only that, but Roper also earned an offer from the Ohio State Buckeyes on Thursday, only adding more fuel to the fire by Sherrone Moore, Grant Newsome and company. He also has offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Washington and others.
The Wolverines have been aggressive on the recruiting trail since Moore took over as head coach, and this latest development is another example of that. Of course, they are very unlikely offering these kids at these exact times on purpose — Michigan has been handing out a ton of offers to prospects in the 2027 class as of late — but the timing of the offers sure is funny.
Michigan vs Oklahoma kicks off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on ABC. And who knows — maybe Michigan will pull off the upset and impress Roper and the other recruits that are visiting Norman for the game.
