Jim Cornette clarified his comments about Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano after mocking their much-ballyhooed fight.
Fight commentator Ben Davis quoted Cornette’s post on X, saying the wrestling legend was showing his ignorance if he thought the fight was fixed. On Monday, the outspoken manager-turned-podcaster responded in no uncertain terms.
“Hi Ben, blow me,” Cornette replied. “Wasn’t ‘fixed’, it was never going to be a ‘fight’ to begin with. One couldn’t hurt the other, one didn’t WANT to, and they
milked a bunch of idiots for money to see them go down, tap and hug and kiss. Rotten business and a popcorn fart. Quit kissing ass, boobie.”
Rousey made a triumphant return to MMA on Saturday night after being out of the sport for almost a decade. She made quick work of Carano, forcing her to tap out to an armbar in 17 seconds. For Carano, 44, it was her first time back in the cage since 2009.
During the post-fight interview with Ariel Helwani, Rousey said she was hoping she and Carano would come out unharmed.
“I was hoping to come out, both, as unscathed as possible because I didn’t really want to hurt her,” said the former UFC and WWE champion, adding that Carano was her hero.
The next day, Cornette posted a mock conversation between Rousey and Carano, suggesting they end the fight quickly since they were already getting paid, while sarcastically noting how their post-fight pleasantries were longer than the fight itself.
As Davis and Cornette continued to argue, Cornette claimed the fight may have hurt future events for its promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, co-founded by Jake Paul, brother of WWE’s Logan Paul. After Davis pushed back, Cornette seemingly closed the door on the conversation by dismissing Davis.
“You’re way too unknown, irrelevant and ill-equipped verbally for me to continue to try to tutor you. Thanks for playing,” Cornette wrote.
