Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos, who left the team’s loss to Stanford early after taking a late hit on a slide, is currently “day-to-day” according to head coach Mike Norvell.
He’s currently
listed at the top of the depth chart.
“Coming off the bye, Tommy probably would not have been able to play if we had to play last week,” he said Saw some real progress towards the end of the week off, tried to be careful with him as we went about it. He was able to get some work towards the end of the week…but we’ll have to take it day-by-day as this week unfolds.”
Castellanos has thrown for 1,607 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions this season, adding 319 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
After Castellanos left the game, he was replaced by true freshman Kevin Sperry, who has served as Florida State’s primary backup this season. Sperry, a blue-chip prospect who flipped from Oklahoma to sign with FSU before enrolling this spring, has completed 12 of 17 passes this season for 194 yards and two touchdowns, nearly leading FSU on a last-second, game-tying drive in relief of Castellanos vs. Stanford.
Further addressing injuries, Norvell said that freshman wide receiver Jayvon Boggs is expected to be out. Boggs, the first true freshman to start a season opener for FSU since 1992, has missed two full games for Florida State this year. He was listed as a game-time decision for Stanford, logging 14 snaps but failing to record any statistics.
“He’s kind of had an up and down last few weeks,” Norvell said, adding that he was “pretty certain” Boggs will be out this week.
