The transfer chatter surrounding Joe Gomez over the past 24 hours has been rather mixed, with competing briefings about a potential move to Serie A side AC Milan on one side and repeated suggestions that the club value his versatility and he’s not expected to be sold on the other.
Reading between the lines, though, it’s always seemed as though the situation has been one where if Liverpool manage to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi, Gomez will be allowed to depart if he desires a departure in search
of a clearer path to playing time. And at the moment, that seems the likeliest outcome.
With rumblings that Brighton’s Igor Julio is now set to join Crystal Palace to allow for Guéhi to join the Reds, it seems likely Gomez will in turn depart, and to that end reports out of Italy claim the player has signed off on joining Milan and further that he has agreed a four-year contract.
It is expected that when the deal goes through—assuming all the other moving parts click into place—the fee for Gomez will be €15M, which could mean Gomez’ impressive appearance last night in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal will be his final one for the club he has spent a decade at.
