Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is set to make his return to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, which will give a struggling defense a much-needed boost. Roster upgrades are something that the Cowboys could use, and team owner Jerry Jones is adamant about being active in that regard.
Speaking of adding to the roster, Dallas has been linked to Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat. Also, a sputtering Cowboys’ offense is searching for answers after consecutive bad performances.
With more adversity behind him, DeMarvion Overshown ready to prove himself again – Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
DeMarvion Overshown hasn’t played
since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury. Now that he’s cleared to return against the Eagles on Monday, he’s ready to get back to making plays.
What was initially thought to be a two-to-three week issue turned into five games missed for the season’s starting MIKE linebacker, but Overshown has continued to be the same person he has been during his entire tenure in Dallas: level, measured and carrying a smile on his face wherever he goes.
“I’ve been taking it day-by-day, it’s really all you can do with stuff like this,” Overshown said. “I’m blessed. Of course, I want to be out there with my teammates, but then again, it’s just about being thankful about what you do have. What I do have not playing football is a loving and caring family. I do have a team that supports me and understands that I’m doing whatever I can to get back on the field.”
A ‘disappointed’ Jerry Jones would like to improve Cowboys’ roster before trade deadline – Jon Machota and Mike Jones, The Athletic
The Cowboys are off to a rough start in 2026. Team owner Jerry Jones is willing to make another roster move to assist in turning things around.
“I don’t have a specific (trade),” he said, “but certainly I’ll be real clear, I would be active if we could get a chance to help the team this year. So, that’s important, I think.”
Is there any scenario where the Cowboys would be sellers at the trade deadline?
“No, no, I don’t see that,” Jones said. “But I don’t rule it out now. If somebody comes along and offers you one of those deals, like the one I made a year or so ago, then it’s just too much.”
Can Cowboys’ returning defenders help ease pressure on rookies Downs, Barham – Calvin Watkins, Dallas Morning News
With DeMarvion Overshown and Cobie Durant returning to the lineup, Jaishawn Barham and Caleb Downs won’t have as much on their plates in terms of responsibility.
Barham was thrust into a position he might not be equipped to handle so soon. Yet, the Cowboys have confidence in his abilities to make plays.
It seems Overshown will play the weakside linebacker spot upon his return. Barham and Overshown are a better combination at linebacker than Barham and Dee Winters.
“I don’t know how it’s going to play out,” Overshown said. “I’m going to be out there, that’s enough for me. I feel like that’s enough to impact the game, too, just being out there whether it’s with the green dot or not, so just ready to be out there.”

Ryan Flournoy: Cowboys offense is having ‘the tough conversations’ – Patrik Walker, DallasCowboys.com
Over the past two games, the Cowboys offense has been stuck in the mud. This has forced them to look in the mirror and get some things corrected.
“We’re taking it week by week. It’s a long season. It’s only Week 6, and we’ve got [11] more games,” he said. “It’s a long season. I think we’re heading in the right direction, and correcting the things we need to correct. … It’s the attitude of wanting to get better. We know we’re better than what we’ve shown these last couple weeks.
“That’s why I feel like we’re heading in the right direction. We’re having the right conversations, the tough conversations.”
Cowboys trade rumor: Dallas linked to Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat – RJ Ochoa, Blogging The Boys
Dallas needs to get a lot more pressure on the quarterback. They’ve been linked to a possible trade for pass rusher Josh Sweat per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The Cowboys might have one more move in them. Perhaps that’s shortsighted, given their 2-4 record. But that might as well be 4-4 in this season’s NFC East climate, where no commodity is proven and Philly’s transitional state has cracked the door open. As one team exec pointed out to me Tuesday, Josh Sweat to Dallas makes a lot of sense. He fits Dallas’ profile, and the Cowboys need edge-rush help. Sweat’s Cardinals won Sunday, but they are not contention-adjacent just yet. Sweat has been linked to the Packers, too, but Green Bay has Micah Parsons returning eventually.
