In his pre-practice press conference on Wednesday, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated that defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt will return to action today. Wyatt injured his knee in back-to-back
games in Weeks 3 and 4, ultimately missing games in Week 6 and 7 after Green Bay’s Week 5 bye week. Since then, Wyatt has been a non-participant in practice.
We still don’t know exactly what Wyatt’s knee injury is, as the Packers haven’t disclosed that.
Without Wyatt or defensive end Lukas Van Ness (foot) last Sunday, Green Bay had to stretch its defensive line very thin. Backup defensive ends Kingsley Enagbare and Barryn Sorrell played their season-high amount of snaps against the Arizona Cardinals, along with backup defensive tackle Warren Brinson. Sorrell, a 256-pound rookie end, actually had to play 12 snaps at defensive tackle, too.
In short, a potential return for Wyatt would be greatly appreciated in Green Bay, especially ahead of a Pittsburgh Steelers matchup. No team plays heavier offensive personnel than the Steelers, a team that generally plays multiple tight ends and relies on the running game and quick passing game to move the ball.
