Harry Kane continues to earn praise for his remarkable goalscoring career, and former England striker Michael Owen believes the Bayern Munich star has reached a level that even he might not have been able to match, had injuries not disrupted his own playing days.
Owen, the 2001 Ballon d’Or winner who starred for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, and England, was one of the most prolific English forwards of his generation. However, recurring injuries limited his career, making his assessment
of Kane’s achievements particularly interesting.
Asked whether he could have matched Kane’s accomplishments for England and at Bayern Munich had he enjoyed better health, Owen acknowledged that his numbers might have been considerably higher, but stopped short of suggesting he could have reached Kane’s heights.
“I would have done a lot better, goals wise, in my career. You might be able to argue that I might have been able to double my tallies, but I don’t think I would have managed to play in as many games and score as many goals as Harry Kane,” Owen said in comments to Casino.org.
Owen then offered an emphatic endorsement of Kane’s contribution to English football, highlighting the striker’s consistency and ability to deliver when the stakes are highest.
“He’s been absolutely incredible for England over the years, and he’ll go down as an all-time great. Big games, big goals, big performances, just a constant source of goals. He’s been a real leader. I can’t speak highly enough of him. He’s a proper guy and a proper player, and we’ve been lucky to have him for England for many years now,” said Owen.
For Bayern Munich, that praise reflects what Kane has brought to Munich since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. His finishing, intelligent movement, and ability to create chances for teammates have made him much more than a conventional center-forward.
Coming from a former Ballon d’Or winner who knows what it takes to score at the highest level, Owen’s assessment carries considerable weight. Kane is already building a legacy that places him among England’s greatest-ever strikers, and his continued productivity at Bayern gives him every opportunity to strengthen that reputation further.
