The organization opened spots for the former Philadelphia Eagle and former New York Giant on Monday afternoon by parting ways with vested veterans.
After making the initial 53-man roster, center Ben Brown and linebacker K.J. Britt have been released, according to the league’s 4 p.m. ET transaction wire.
Brown, 28, sustained a multiweek injury during the preseason
opener and had not practiced since then. The 6-foot-5, 313-pound interior lineman’s time in Foxborough dates back to the fall of 2024, when he was signed off the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders. Brown appeared in 27 games over the past pair of regular seasons, starting 14 between center and guard. He accrued 998 snaps on offense and 124 snaps on special teams. Undrafted in 2022, the Ole Miss alum has also made stops with Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
Britt, 27, signed a one-year deal with the reigning AFC champions in March. The 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker stands 76 games into an NFL run that began in the fifth round of the 2021 draft at No. 176 overall. An Auburn product who spent previous tours with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins, Britt’s career spans 16 starts, 994 snaps on defense and 1,289 snaps in the kicking game. He has recorded 161 tackles along with one split sack, four stops for loss and three passes defensed.
Both bypass the claiming period are now unrestricted free agents. Reunions could follow as New England sorts through the post-deadline movement.
The formation of the practice squad is also underway as sights set on September.
