Following the mosaic at Newcastle at St. James’ Park, Liverpool have today announced that a home mosaic at Anfield will take place this Saturday against Nottingham Forest. This mosaic will build on the honors paid by and with Newcastle, who, like Liverpool, feel his loss.
Keegan featured in 323 matches for Liverpool, scoring 100 goals and playing for the Reds across seven seasons. He passed away in July at 75.
The mosaic will take place in the ground before kick-off, and Anfield will also observe a period
of applause. Players will again be wearing black armbands in his memory.
Keegan was born on Valentine’s Day in 1951 and started his career at Scunthorpe United before moving to Liverpool in 1971, achieving his first senior cap for England a year later. He won the First Division title with Liverpool on three occasions, won one FA Cup, one European Cup, and two UEFA Cups.
To this day, Keegan is the only English-born player to win the Ballon d’Or on two occasions: he won it twice in a row while playing for Hamburger SV, where he played from 1977 to 1980.
As a manager, he won the First Division title with both Newcastle and Manchester City, and the Second Division title with Fulham. He was an inaugural inductee to the English Football Hall of Fame.
