Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
I don’t think the Eagles are sitting back and saying “Hey, we’re almost 4-1! We’re going to be fine.” Which is good. You don’t want them to be delusional about how they’ve played thus far. You want them to feel the need to get things fixed. But maybe some of the internal concern speaks to a lack of confidence in turning things around. We’ll see.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
NFL Week 6
latest intel, buzz questions, news, fantasy tips: What we’re hearing – ESPN
How concerned are the Eagles amid three straight losses? … Graziano: Pretty concerned. This is a team that just saw a nearly complete overhaul of its offensive line last week, and not all of it was intentional. Lane Johnson’s retirement leaves a significant hole on the line and in the locker room. The Eagles are also still awaiting Landon Dickerson’s return from injury, and they’re counting on significant contributions from the likes of Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin and third-round rookie Markel Bell. This comes while still breaking in rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon, playing the past two games without top wideout DeVonta Smith and missing the top three running backs from their depth chart. The defense has looked better the past couple of weeks — but it wasn’t able to carry the Eagles through the early part of the season as they had hoped it would while the offense found itself under first-year coordinator Sean Mannion. That offense is dealing with a lot more than just growing pains right now, and after consecutive losses in which the Eagles’ win probability exceeded 96%, there’s reason to wonder where they’ll find the leadership to get them through a tough part of their season. … Fowler: Yeah, my sense is the concern is quite high. The Eagles sought to implement an offense that, in part, utilizes play-action passes over the middle to match a potent running game. But that’s not working as intended. The offense ranks in the bottom third in play-action usage. It ranks 31st in total offense. Jalen Hurts struggles at times throwing inside the numbers, which was apparent Sunday in London. The impending return of Saquon Barkley and Smith will help, but I’m not sure that will solve the problems that run deeper than one or two players.
Eagles-Jaguars Film Review: This team isn’t going anywhere unless they fix the run game – BGN
Ugh. Another week, another game where the Eagles’ offense found a way to make everything feel painfully difficult. There were some signs of life on the rewatch. I promise. But it was rough in places. Before getting into all of that, I was at the game, and it was freaking awesome. It was so loud, and I had an absolute blast. Watching the Eagles in person is special, even when the football itself leaves you wanting to scream. I loved being there. Eagles fans are the absolute best, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. The Eagles finished with 22 rushing yards on 18 attempts. That is not a typo. Before the final drive, their second-half offense had produced 10 yards on 15 plays across four punts. You cannot keep asking the defense to survive that. The offensive line is dealing with a lot of change, but some of the assignments and calls made an already difficult situation even harder. The passing game was a little more interesting. Empty formations gave Jalen Hurts some clearer answers against pressure, and there were a couple of successful under-center play-action throws. Hurts also left opportunities on the field, particularly over the middle, so this wasn’t another game where I thought the quarterback had almost no chance. There was enough here to see a way forward.
The Eagles’ bubble is about to burst – SB Nation
DeVonta Smith has dealt with the aforementioned hamstring injury, which has kept him out of two games. Makai Lemon is averaging just 7.2 yards per catch, and Hurts is averaging less than 190 yards passing. Through five weeks, the Eagles’ offense ranks 30th in EPA per play and 30th in passing success rate. They also can’t put points on the board, ranking 29th in scoring. Which leads us to the bubble. The bubble that will inevitably pop. Jalen Hurts’ contract is becoming worse by the day. He ranks 31st in EPA per play (min. 25 dropbacks), and carries a dead cap hit of $101 million in 2027. His contract’s total value is the seventh-highest among quarterbacks, and his play is much closer to reflecting that of the 27th best quarterback in the league.
Panthers vs Eagles: Storylines to watch – Cat Scratch Reader
Defense: Contain Jalen Hurts. The common denominator in both of the Panthers losses this season was facing a mobile quarterback. While week 1 was an all around bad defensive effort, the Panthers defense has done a relatively solid job in the other 3 games. However, when they faced the Browns, Deshaun Watson’s ability to extend plays and break contain was ultimately the downfall of the defense, who again weren’t “bad”, but those scrambles by Watson were back breaking when the defense was attempting to get off the field. Things won’t get any easier this week, as Hurts can definitely run and likely will since the rest of the offense for the Eagles has very much struggled to get much going. If there’s ever a game for the defense to clean up the issues with containing the quarterback and preventing scrambles, its this one. Having Devin Lloyd back will certainly help, but he can’t do it all and he very much needs the edge defenders to do their job.
NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 6 edition – PhillyVoice
11) Eagles (2-3): “The Eagles are two plays away from being 4-1” is a true statement, I suppose, and a bit of a rallying cry for optimistic fans. Of course… They aren’t 4-1, because they blew it in two games. Half the teams in the league can probably make similar claims if they had simply made one or two plays that they didn’t make. That line of thinking ignores what the product on the field actually looks like, and the offense is awful, partly because of injuries, but also the scheme stinks. They could just as easily be 1-4. (Some would say 0-5.)
Nick Sirianni’s decisions draw debate, but the Eagles’ offense is the bigger problem – The Athletic
The conversation about coaching decisions shouldn’t obscure the bigger problem with this team at the moment: the offense. The Eagles rank No. 29 in EPA/drive, No. 31 in yards, No. 29 in points. The second-half problems are more pronounced. The Eagles haven’t scored a touchdown after halftime in the previous three games. The Eagles are No. 32 in the NFL in average second-half yards. The gap between the Eagles and the No. 31 team is larger than the gap between the No. 31 team and the No. 12 team. “We’re looking at that hard each and every week as a staff, how to find our rhythm, find our footing in the second half,” Mannion said. “I thought we did a better job and there were some close calls. It was more about finishing those drives. … I think there were some chances there that we just didn’t quite capitalize on.” I don’t get wrapped up in the “identity” talk as much as others might because that can change based on the opponent, but I’m also not sure what the Eagles can hang their hats on at this point. They’re not running the ball effectively — it would help to get Saquon Barkley back, which is expected to happen this week — and they’re not a strong play-action team (No. 29 in the NFL in EPA/play in play-action). A big change this year was supposed to be how they’re playing under center, yet they’re No. 30 in EPA/play from under center. They’re running condensed sets more than any other team in the NFL, but that also seems to invite pressure that goes unblocked. It’s still early. The Eagles played a good chunk of three games without Barkley and two without DeVonta Smith. Only two Day 1 starting linemen are available. Barkley’s and Smith’s expected returns will boost the offense. Much also falls on Jalen Hurts, whose legs should factor more.
Eagles special teams coach Michael Clay explains Jaguars kick return disaster – NBCSP
“Obviously, I had seven hours to think about it from London to here,” he said. “Then you review it, see if we can coach it better, see if we can get the players to do better in terms of how do I present it to them where they understand, like, all right, this is where we’re going to evolve and be better at. And where do I evolve and be better as a coach in that scenario if it does arise again that we are overcoming it and make the play.” One of the most painful aspects of the return is that if Abdullah gained five more yards before getting tackled, the clock would have hit 0:00, the game would have been over, Little never would have gotten the opportunity to kick and the Eagles would be sitting here 3-2. But Clay said there’s no way players can know the exact amount of time remaining, and you certainly can’t delay a tackle to allow time to run out. “When you’re in the heat of the moment, you’re (only thinking), ‘Let me get this guy down.’ I don’t think anybody’s going to look up at the clock simultaneously, then get the guy down who’s running full speed ahead. An extra second off at some point in the game, you’re not talking about this, but that was a perfect storm to happen. We weren’t able to execute in that scenario and it cost us a win.”
First-place Giants are a distant third in betting odds to win the NFC East – PFT
In seven of the NFL’s eight divisions, the team that is currently in first place is also currently the betting favorite to win the division. The NFC East is the exception. At 3-1-1, the Giants are in first place in the NFC East by 1.5 games. But they’re a distant third in the betting odds to win the division. The betting odds currently list the 2-3 Eagles as the favorites at +170, followed closely by the 2-3 Cowboys at +180. The Giants are third at +320, and the 1-3-1 Commanders are last at +750.
2026 NFL offensive line rankings: Lions move into top spot, Patriots slide amid injury – PFF
18) Philadelphia Eagles (down 2). The Eagles’ offensive line is already wildly different to how it looked at the start of the season, with the retirement of Lane Johnson, trade of Cam Jurgens and injury to Landon Dickerson all having a huge impact. Jake Majors started in place of Drew Kendall in London in Week 5, and was one of three starters to generate a sub-50.0 PFF grade against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Philadelphia will hope to have Kendall back when it takes on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Eagles coach unhappy with young starter’s costly mistake: ‘It was poorly played’ – NJ.com
The Eagles do not have the firepower on offense to make up for its defensive mistakes. “It was poorly played,” Fangio said about Washington’s touchdown on Tuesday. Mukuba struggled last season as a rookie with giving up big plays. He improved in that area during the second half of the 2025 season and has looked fine during the first four weeks of the 2026 season.
Spadaro: Britain Covey continues to embrace contact – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Britain Covey has talked this talk before, because it seems like every time he returns a kick there is something going on at the end. A big hit. Some trash talking. A celebration after a productive return. Something. Always. “I have what looks like a, I guess you could say I can be frenetic on my returns, but I always have a plan,” Covey said. “I spend my week preparing for gameday and trying to make the most out of every opportunity. Sometimes that involves giving them (players in coverage) a chance to hit me and that’s just part of the game. I protect myself. I know what’s coming. But what matters is what I do when I have a chance with the football in my hands. I’m looking for positive plays. I’m trying to do anything I can to help this team win games.”

Patriots sign running back Hassan Haskins, cornerback D’Shawn Jamison to practice squad – Pats Pulpit
The Patriots released outside linebacker Jose Ramirez to make room among the 17-man group. Ramirez, 27, had re-signed to New England’s practice squad last week after going through the wire unclaimed. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound edge rusher first arrived as the calendar turned to September and was called up to the 53-man roster three weeks later. In two games, he recorded one solo tackle across 30 snaps between defense and special teams before being waived. Entering the NFL in the sixth round of the 2023 draft at No. 196 overall, Ramirez made four appearances while a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former MAC Defensive Player of the Year out of Arizona, Riverside City College and Eastern Michigan spent last year with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats on the way to reaching a futures agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles.
